Last Flight Out

Last Flight Out

More hurricanes. Southern cities, counties afloat. Disasters declared.
Now an island of three million. No power, no drinking water,
no gas. Months and months from any reconstruction.

Fires in the West, of course. In the East, warmest ending of September
ever. Sad to see our pale brown leaves go to ground, listless, dry,
not a breath of wind to send them swirling. A falling out. A failing.

So weary of the news. Our foolish, feckless leader frittering away the time,
his thieving henchmen dismantling hard won policy while here and all across

our warming world, fleeing folk find no refuge. Old woman, young mother, child--god help her.

The news shows us their shoes left in the mud.
There are never enough seats in the planes.
