 Ten Day Forecast

Seeking reassurance in uneasy times—
not wishing to text more moans & whines,

she begins with the neutral—weather—

still an acceptable everyday opener,

and easily accessed on a smart phone.

Beyond her window wet snow falls

and the frisky squirrel has retreated.

Her computer's livestream keeps up

a line of chatter, noting that the reporter’s

actual colleague has just replaced his AI

stand-in—what?   Once again, she isn’t sure

whether that one’s a joke. Improbable events

seem to be increasing— planes flipping over,

landing upside down on a non-runway,

footage of squads of white-clad, chained men,

bent over while their heads are shaved

before being shipped to a hell-hole prison

in El Salvador because now Trump is using

the 1798 Alien Enemies Act— not what

she has known as possible. But yesterday

Trump ordered the Department of Education

closed, and even Bernie, AOC and Maddow are

hard pressed to find rhetoric powerful enough

to meet the weather blowing from the Rabid Right.
