  A Word About Catsup

Google admits that catsup can be spelled 

with a c or a k, so I consult my cat about it.

Without hesitation, Gingee chooses 

the c-a-t-s-u-p spelling.  Unsurprising.

When she is out of sorts, I whisper 

in her right ear, dogcatcher

or any of these words: cattily, catkins, 

catseye, catchy, or catalectic.

She laughs at that last one, so I try

concatenation and wildcatter.  Both

earn Gingee’s sustained snicker,

but here’s the one that seems to

puff her up with pride:  miseducate.

Whether a long or short a sound,

she recognizes a title of respect.  

She’s also known as Miss Smartypants.
