The Plumbing Plan
The Plumbing Plan
James drives fast, not even glancing
at the dash, mind dancing,
heart happy. Probably sappy,
he thinks, but hell,
maybe it will all end well.
The sky is high, the wind wild,
his best friend is with child—
nothing mild about that—
babies are where it’s at.
All of it, all— is worth the candle—
a babe of his own to dandle—
he slaps his knee, grabs a smoke,
lights it up, remembers the joke:
Caution!
What begins with a poke,
ends in a yoke—
but James just grins—
his skin isn’t that thin.
None of the ol’ single jive
is keeping him alive—
but a wife and a kid—
now that’s worth a bid.
He’s shaping his plan—
has supplies ready to hand—
he’ll build her that bathroom—
get it done super-quick—
he’s pretty sure that’ll do the trick.
But damn! She’ll want a ring—
and no way is a ring his thing.
He needs his sis— who loves to shop—
gets Siri to dial her—just one quick stop—
James whistles and turns his car
onto his sister’s street. It’s not far—
