The Walk Home Choosing

 The Walk Home Choosing

The first tiny flower I pick— a single,

white violet I wish to inspect closely

for the purple shadow in its center—

is followed by a small cluster of blue

forget-me-nots,  necessary for their

heart-tugging name, and next, two

single, white, strawberry blossoms for

their promise of fruit by late June, then

a fuzzy fat, heal-all with sturdy stem

to firm up the bouquet’s middle, and last,

a rare, all white spill of extra fine

forget-me-nots—just as huge raindrops

splatter the sidewalks and I’m home.
